Lots to Look Forward To

This weekend was rough for me. I was feeling very discouraged about ReTextile and doubting my ability to make this nonprofit work in the long-term. You can imagine my surprise when I got two pieces of very good news this Monday.
First, I am slowly building my volunteer network. I reached out my church’s membership coordinator, and she found somebody who was interested in helping ReTextile. I am waiting to hear back from her now, but am excited to have who I consider my first real volunteer. Additionally, a friend of mine who sews asked about the project, so even though there are no longer any quilts for her to sew this first time around, I can put her on a standby list for next time.
Second, the local quilting guild reached out to me again. While they had initially rejected my request to speak at the guild, they reconsidered and I am now going to be presenting at their December meeting. I’m looking forward to sharing more about the presentation then.
They also have large amounts of excess fabric that they are going to donate to ReTextile.
I’m beyond excited about these opportunities for ReTextile to grow and help more survivors of human trafficking in the future.
I do have some other ways to potentially expand ReTextile. When doing more research last week about growing a volunteer network, I learned about some small ways I could improve my volunteer page on ReTextile’s website, which I will be implementing this week. Additionally, the article emphasized the importance a social media presence in recruiting volunteers, so I am going to do specific research on how to do that, from reading articles to analyzing a few successful nonprofit social media accounts.
See you next week,
Ashley
