I keep saying that so much is happening, but so much is happening, both in ISM and for ReTextile.
Last week, I attended ISM’s annual Business Symposium, where ISM students from across the school district come together to network with each other and professionals. Additionally students learn more about professionalism in areas such as communication and leadership. Those things alone made the symposium a beneficial experience, but I also got to connect with a professional interested in ReTextile and a few students who are interested in volunteering.
Earlier today, I dropped off ReTextile’s first quilts to the Treasured Vessels Foundation. The staff was so welcoming and enthusiastic about the quilts, which was extremely rewarding. I also had the opportunity to speak with Alicia Bush, the founder and president of Treasured Vessels Foundation, to learn more about her experience starting a nonprofit and her advice for ReTextile. During the interview she gave me several pieces of concrete advice that I can apply to all of ReTextile, but especially ReTextile’s social media marketing and image.
These next few weeks, I am taking some time to plan the immediate next steps for ReTextile, but I’m looking forward to starting ReTextile’s second round of quilts.
See you next week,
Ashley Yau
